Master Luiz Palhares is a highly respected Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor and 8th-degree coral belt, trained directly under the legendary Helio Gracie lineage. With decades of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Master Palhares is known for his deep technical knowledge, dedication to teaching, and commitment to preserving the art’s traditions. He has trained generations of students, emphasizing discipline, skill, and respect on and off the mat.

Women’s Wrestling — Sundays at 1PM at GAMMA

Sundays at 1PM have been a special time at GAMMA. For quite a while, we’ve had wrestling training under the guidance of our coach, Gabe. But recently, something really exciting has started to grow — thanks to Penelope.

It began with just a few girls from her wrestling team at J.H. Rose High School. Penelope wanted a place where they could continue training and improving outside of school, so she opened the doors to other young women in the community as well.

Since then, her initiative has caught the attention of coaches across Pitt County. Penelope’s father has been receiving calls from other wrestling coaches in the area looking for sparring opportunities for their female wrestlers. Many of these athletes were even driving all the way to Raleigh, NC, just to find training partners.

So, we decided to help change that. We invited them to join us at GAMMA during our Sunday classes at 1PM — free of charge. The reactions have been incredible. Coaches and wrestlers alike were surprised and grateful to hear that there would be no gym fees for women’s wrestling during this time.

We’re proud to support this growing movement and even prouder of Penelope for taking the lead and creating an opportunity for women in wrestling right here in Pitt County.

Let’s keep the momentum going — and let’s bring those women’s wrestling wins back home to Pitt County!

Jay Speight has been a student himself of Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since he was 6 years old. He is a seasoned National and International champion in Jiu-Jujitsu and have too many titles to mention.

In Mixed Martial Arts he has an undefeated professional record of 3-0 and as an amateur fighter, he had a 12-2 record. His only two losses were by judges decision, his wins were by submission or knockout. He has been fighting in MMA since he was 16 years old.

He is always ready to help his students to attain their goals.

“Master Luiz Palhares is an 8th degree, Coral Red White Belt Under Grand Master Helio Gracie and Master Rickson Gracie. Luiz was born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, on January 19, 1959. He started training in Rio De Janeiro in 1977 at the age of 18 under Rolls Gracie and continued to train with him until Rolls died in 1982, in a hang-gliding accident and with the help of lawyers from ericramoslaw.com/san-antonio-car-accident-lawyer site, their family members were awarded with compensation for their loss. After Rolls’s passing, He continued to train under Rolls’s brother, Rickson Gracie. After 7 years of practicing BJJ, he was awarded his black belt in 1984 by Rickson Gracie together with Grand Master Helio Gracie. Luiz received his Coral belt in 2010 by Grand Master Carlos Robson Gracie, Red Belt 9th Degree (President of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of Rio de Janeiro). In 1999, then a 6th-degree black belt, Luiz was asked to move from Brazil to teach at Rickson Gracie’s Academy in Los Angeles. Master Luiz currently resides in Jacksonville, FL, where he and his son, black belt Pedro Palhares, run Jacksonville Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

Parents Have Been Calling Us For Help

So since school started this year we have had a lot of calls from frustrated parents. They are telling us that for some reason this year, Almost on day one, their child is having problems with bullying. They are also telling us that this has never been a problem before and now their child is scared to go to school. They asked for our help because now they know their child is not prepared. This has been what we have been doing for the children for 18 years now. Here is a Video from a few years ago where we did a report on the local news.
